Located a short distance south of downtown Denver, the University of Denver can trace its roots to Abraham LIncoln, who appointed its founder, John Evans, as Territorial Governor.  DU is one of the top private universities in the country.  The university boasts an agressive performing arts center with a 1,000-seat, four-level opera house and 600-seat recital hall with an outstanding organ as part of the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.  It's Daniels College of Business is ranked as one of the top.

DU's Pioneers NCAA Division athletic teams regularly sell out the 6,000 seat Magness Arena - part of the renown Ritch Center for Sports and Wellness.  It's no surprise that skiing is a strong sport at Denver with 18 NCAA titles.

Prominent DU alumni include Condoleeza Rice, Jim Nicholson, Peter Coors, Lowell Thomas, Ted Shawn, and Peter Domenici.
